What is E-Coli Poisoning?

Commonly E-Coli is found in the intestines of humans and is a bacterium that can be caused by food poisoning and exposure to faeces (animals and human contact). Inappropriate handling of farm animals and meats can often lead to it being transferred to another person. It is otherwise known as Escherichia Coli and was discovered first back in 1885 by the German bacteriologist Theodor Escherich. The name Escherichia Coli was given in honour of the person who discovered it. There are many different strains of E-Coli poisoning ranging from mild to severe. In many cases a dirty kitchen worktop can lead to E-Coli poisoning along with dirty utensils and raw food such as vegetables. It is imperative that cleanliness is taken at all times when dealing with food to keep the risk of spreading E-Coli to a minimum.

How much compensation can you claim for E-Coli Poisoning?

It depends on the strain of the E-Coli poisoning that you have. In some cases it has been reported that compensation claim fees of up to £2.6 million have been awarded to people who have suffered from it in the past. Unfortunately this person was a child that went on to suffer brain injuries as a result. Compensation is therefore awarded for the pain and suffering of the person and their family. Upon discovery of E-Coli poisoning it is important to seek immediate medical help.

How to tell the symptoms & how to get diagnosed for E-Coli Poisoning?

Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea (often with blood), abdominal pains and fever. It is also more common in people with weakened immune systems, such as the elderly. Symptoms can last up to a week but in some cases it can become more severe. If you are suffering from these symptoms call your doctor immediately.
