Staying at a hotel, whether for a holiday or a work trip, should be a comfortable and pleasant experience. Unfortunately, for unlucky guests across the UK, this isn’t always the case. The cause of the issue? Bed bugs.
Throughout our 15 years of experience handling personal injury claims, we’ve supported many hotel guests in making successful compensation claims after suffering bed bug bites.
What happened?
We covered one such case earlier in 2025. Our claimant booked a room at a well-known hotel chain. In the morning, he awoke to find he had been bitten by bed bugs.
Bed bug bites can be incredibly itchy, sore, and uncomfortable and can sometimes even cause allergic reactions. The experience can be both painful and distressing for the victim.
The claims process
When bed bugs are present in a hotel room, it’s clear that there is a lack of suitable hygiene and health and safety protocols in place. Bed bug infestations can grow rapidly and require professional fumigation to resolve the issue.
When the victim contacted us to discuss his bed bug injuries, we were confident we could secure him the compensation he deserved for suffering this unpleasant experience.
The outcome
We were pleased to settle this case quickly, showcasing clear evidence that the claimant had suffered injuries due to the hotel chain’s negligence.
The victim made his initial enquiry with the Tylers Solicitors team on the 20th of February, and by the 24th of February, papers had been signed to show the hotel accepted liability.
The claimant received a settlement of £2,150 on the second of April.
We recognise that being bitten by bed bugs in a hotel, bed and breakfast, or self-catering holiday venue can be very upsetting. If you’ve been through a similar experience, our team of personal injury solicitors is on hand to ensure you get the compensation you deserve.
